Their investigation found out that accidents at the 32 intersections with red light cameras are up by 40% for the six months after the cameras were installed when compared to the six months prior to installation.
We have been in discussions with attorneys about the possibility of bringing suit for injunctive relief and asking the court to order the cameras removed as a hazard to public safety. We would encourage City Attorney Trutanich to either join us in such a suit or to bring one on his own.
Admittedly, the city of LA made $4 million off of the cameras last year but, now that the facts are out, how much liability does the city have for accidents at those intersections? How many suits because of that liability would it take to wipe out that $4 million? Doesn’t Mr. Trutanich have a fiduciary responsibility to the people of LA to limit the city’s liability?
